Although the term “mixed media” is generally used to describe artworks composed of a combination of different media and materials, Carol Benson-Cobb has embraced the term to categorize her custom, embellished works. The combination of materials used is the artist’s own original painting, reproduced as a giclée canvas using gallery quality, water-based inks, with additional paint layers inherent to the original work. The term perfectly describes the process for buyers.
We are often asked "what is the difference between the Mixed Media and the Reproduction canvas option?"
The most noticeable differences are quality and customization. The Mixed Media offers the ability to customize the artwork in size, orientation, or color. You are also purchasing a signed, collectible work, accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
Canvas reproductions are high-quality replicas, using solvent printining technology and ink sets. Although similar in color, the canvas print is sealed at the time of printing. Reproductions are offered in limited sizes, with no signature or certificate. Reproductions are a very durable, budget friendly option.

The Mixed Media price point is a more custom experience from start to completion. As with all studio orders, clients are able to visualize the end result with our digital mock-ups. Clients can send snapshots of their space and receive scaled renderings on any artwork.
The rendering process is quite helpful for selecting from various paintings as well as final decisions on customization options.
We encourage digital mock-ups as the first step to purchasing if you are unsure of your sizing or selections.
In addition to the scaled renderings, canvas samples are a valuable aid. The canvas samples show the true color and quality of the Mixed Media and Reproduction option.
We offer a sample credit if a Mixed Media order is finalized within 90 days of the sample purchase.

Step 1 | DIGITAL
Once your order is finalized, the Mixed Media is printed using our water based, giclee printer. The fine art ink set enables Benson-Cobb to add additional paint.

Step 2 | STRETCHING
Wooden stretcher bars are built to size. The canvas is hand-stretched then sent to Benson-Cobb's painting studio.
Step 3 | EMBELLISHED & SIGNED
Unless otherwise requested, the canvas is lightly washed with tones inherent to the original painting. Benson-Cobb's original work is very smooth in texture, her washes of color are soft, subtle nuances. If your looking for strong texture or thick brush strokes, you won't find them in a Benson-Cobb Mixed Media or in her original paintings.

The entire custom process is approximately 4-6 weeks, depending on on the level of customization desired by the client.
Upon completion, the artwork is framed and packaged. Most Mixed Medias ship via freight. Your shipment tracking information is emailed at the time of pick-up. Transit times will vary depending on the final destination.
